The add a motor works by activating each time power is supplied to it, whereas a photo cell activated motor would need to work by turning in one direction when a signal is supplied (ie sun hits to sensor) and then reversing when the signal is lost (the sun disappears). I'm not sure this motor can work in that way. The signal would need to cut off and then back on somehow at dusk in order for it to close.
I've always wondered what happens when a dark storm rolls in. Does the door shut and leave the birds stranded in the rain?
I am using the same motor and I like being able to personalize it to whatever time I want. I also still go out every evening and do a head count; but the motor gives me some peace of mind about their security if I have to leave before light or get home after dark.[/
