I want to possibly hatch Auto Sex and or Sex Linked chicks so I can determine sexes at birth.
I currently have Golden Laced Wyandottes, Australorps, and Welsummers and Rhode Island Red hens.
What rooster(s) breed(s) would I need to create auto sexing and or sex linked chicks? Would it even be possible with the four breeds I currently own?
Thank you for all your answers. Appreciate the help.

Get a silver based rooster and breed over your RIR for red sexlinks first generation. It will be lighter down colors but will still pattern with the GLW. Both will have light yellow males and redder fox hens. It likely will even work a bit with the Wellie producing lighter chipmunk males and darker chipmunk girls. All first generation only. Edited: reverse the chick down colors....comment below.

If you mean black Australorp, the black will be dominant both genders so silver roo won't help.

What I would do.Get yourself a Silver Laced Wyandotte roo.

Auto sexing is a bigger project taking several generations of carefully culling wrong patterns.

So SLW Roo over my GLW and possibly Welsummers and definitely the RIR? So I can breed the same Roo for those three breeds to get sex links?
Sorry for all the questioning. I am slowly learning. I appreciate your knowledge.

Yes. All 3...Welsummer, RIR, GLW. It won't be as pretty and clear as a silver (white looking) clean roo over your RIR (yellow down vs. red fox down). For all 3 you will get light base yellow chipmunkish boys and darker red fox chipmunkish girls. The SLW over RIR according to the chicken calculator still gets a bit more patterned (to my surprise...I thought you'd get a pretty straight red sexlink)...but it will also give you light yellow patterned males and golden fox patterned girls. Edit...tired brain....I reversed the down colors with silver roo girls will be yellow based and males golden fox. See comment below.

Black Australorp will be black, both genders, as black is dominate over silver.

There is a pathway to auto sexing with barred birds, but it gets complicated and again takes about 3 generations to get to double barred vs single barred....and you have no barred birds.

So yes...get yourself a nice Silver Laced Wyandotte roo. Check chicks in good lighting. You should see some lovely sex linking the FIRST generations only. Those hybrids bred back will NOT sex link. They'll just be mutts bred to mutts with more complicated outcomes.

EDIT....I take that back. If you breed your gold based girls back to your original silver based roo...you can keep sex linking. However, it will get muddier if you breed siblings together.....Oops...edit again...I'm tired tonight. I reversed the chick down outcomes. Girls will be yellow for silver if roo silver. Can't breed back for any auto sexing. Comment below.

No. Barred roo will NOT produce sex linking. Getting a barred roo over your hens will merely give single barred birds both genders first generation. You have to breed single barred girls then back to double barred rooster to then keep double barred roosters and single barred girls ridding any single barred boys.

It's the way barring follows the "longer" chromosome....Z....ZW is a girl (single barred)....ZZ is male (double barred). Barred male gives a single Z barring to all progeny. If non barred hens, then you get single barred males and females first generation.

Thank you for explaining. What is the chicken calculator you are speaking of?
