Hello all,

I new here (wish I would have found this site before purchasing chicks). Just finished the coop and got them out of my basement finally.

I need some assistance on my coop door. Please see my crude image.

Will this work as is?
Do I need any relays or diodes.
Any recommendations for a battery and small solar panel?

My shed is quite a distance away from house. Borrowing my landscape light wire for now to get this door working until the fall.

Thanks in advance.

Why the transformer AND battery? To go from 110 to 12V?

I bought the add-a-motor for $75 on eBay with a coupon. I'm running out with an extension cord from my well house that is also powering a fan in the coop. Cheaper than a battery and solar panel. I was originally going to do the car antenna. There are more parts needed if run off of solar so the cost comes out similar. That's up to you.

Transformer so I can control it with my Insteon network (dusk to dawn). Added the battery because I’m going to need additional current in order to retract the antenna (open coop) when the switch turns the transformer off....

I already have everything setup except connecting the wires as per my drawing.

If there is an easier way with what I have...maybe a relay....please advise.

Thanks.

Yes 110 to 12v. Attempting to use my existing buried landscaping wire. No time to run 110v wiring to coop (50 ft from shed)

That’s not what I wanted to hear. Takes away from the cool factor of being able to control door via my iPhone (Insteon). :). Is there a way to get my setup to work without using that timer? Relay perhaps?

Thanks.

Hi jballone,

Mind sending that link again. looks to be broken.

Thanks

Thanks. Glanced over but did not read in depth as yet... going away for the weekend (48 hours) and did not finish my auto door.

Limited options:
1-leave I’m sleeping area
2-allow access outside by leaving manual door open

Please see coop pictures:

-DIY coop/castle-hardware cloth below surface as well.
-Manual door
-Auto door (work in progress)

Coop is also located in a fenced in garden area as well....

I live in N.J. and aware of the local predators:
raccoons/coyotes/foxes/hawks etc.

I spent 3 weekends building that thing and absolutely do not want to convert into storage shed.....should a predictor.....
