Hi all,

I still haven't purchased my incubator yet. I was going to buy either an Rcom 10 pro or a brinsea maxi EX with the automatic humidity controls, but I don't actually know what these DO. Does it help to REDUCE the humidity as well as add humidity to the incubator? I haven't purchased one yet because I don't have a room at the moment I can climate control with a dehumidifier, and I don't want to fail another hatch (broody) due to atmospheric humidity being always over 70%. Especially if I've paid a lot for the incubator! Can someone explain to me what and how these humidifiers work?

I did look up those 2 incubators,,, and they are pricey. I do not incubate, but I read many posts with peeps incubating their own chicks. The Harris 360 seem to be a leader in popularity recently. Two individuals I know well, use this 360 with much satisfaction.

I'd love to get some of the ones available overseas like the nuture right 360 but with shipping what it is these days I need to stick with what is in country and that is Rcom, the full brinsea range, and a bunch of cheap Chinese ones.

I am very pleased with my Brinsea
Maxi II advance. Does not have humidity control but I don’t really need it. I also live in a high humidity area and dry incubate, i.e. don’t add any water whatsoever until around DAY 19 or the first internal pip, whichever comes first.😊

Thanks for the responses, confirms what I've been trying to piece together from other threads. My current understanding is that automatic humidity controller can only act to add more humidity if it drops, which will almost never be required for me. I should save the money and buy the advance and use the saving for a dehumidifier for when I can set up a controlled room.

My foam incubator doesn't adust the humidity, but just gives you a digital reading you can add more water or not, I use a dial (I am not sure what they are called) because I trust it more than the digital. I don't add water the first 18 days in my incubator, because I have about 50% naturally. You can get a hydrometer and test the humidity before deciding to add water. They def don't need any water the first week.
