Automatic Chicken Coop Doors

It's all about CUSTOMER SERVICE. As LostLakeChicks stated.

I am a newbie to this forum and did not read the above comments before my purchase.

We are totally new to raising chickens. I was searching for an automatic door for the past few days. I was almost settled on buying the Pullet-Shut door, but wanted to know if I could install it upside down with the motor on the bottom because of clearance problems. So I called the company in the morning. No one answered. I left a voice message that I had some questions before I would purchase. I called agin an hour later. Still no answer. No return call the entire day.
So I read some reviews on Pullet-Shut door. Customer communication was lacking. If they ever call me back, I will let them know why I did NOT buy their product.

My next choice was the Poultry Butler. So I called them at 4:00 PM.. No one answered. I left a message that I had some questions about their product before I would purchase. The owner called me back at around 6:30 PM.
I asked my questions, he answered them.

I ordered the Poultry Butler. We shall see.

Manufacturers, retailers, consumers, PLEASE NOTE: Communication is the most important part of customer service !!!

Poultry Bulter was the one that has been refusing to process my refund. He keeps saying it was processed but I have nothing from Paypal that says it was even authorized. He did not reply to email or phone calls until Paypal was involved. Then I'd send him emails (for proof of communication. Can't prove words spoken.) and he didn't reply until I sent the BBB a complaint. He says he gets nothing, I think he has no intention of communicating with folks. Pullet Shut works great for us, no issues from the start and nothing gets in. I see hand prints from raccoon on the door, but they can't come in. Great product.

Poultry Butler's Jim Resh is not for me.

Hi LostLakeChicks:
I own my own business and personally answer every call. I do not see how these people stay in business with their lack of communication. I feel your frustration with Poultry Butler. You should not have to jump through the hoops like you did. Time is precious and when you have to spend it chasing your money, that is just not right ?

Quick question: I've seen the automatic chicken doors that can be programmed to open and close at preset times; but nowhere in the FAQ of the products I've looked at is there mention of some safety feature to prevent the door from closing on a chicken. Is their a fail-safe built into the commercially available auto chicken doors? Since I have my chicks on closed circuit tv, I've entertained the notion of a remote operated door.
Beyond the 5 others reasons to use this door opener, it comes that slow, you won't kill/injure a chicken here.

My automatic Ador chicken door is not working and has never worked well. I would like to buy a different door asap.
The Foy's door sounds promising on this thread but i go to their website and I don't see it. Anyone know if they still sell it?

Update: Nevermind, i found it. I was exoecting a full door and motor assembly like the Ador door.

Thanks

I use the Poultry Butler. We have had it for 6 months now. Very dependable. Easy install.

Everything included except the eggs.

Wouldn't let my chickens leave home without it.

I have had the Ador for 6 months and it has worked fine. I bought the extra photo sensor that I mounted outside the run and it has worked very well. I can't imagine going out every day to let them out and lock them in. Too many predators in my neck of the woods.

I read this entire thread, but it does not answer one of my questions. I scoured several automatic door websites and I still do not understand the installation process. I am a single woman with no mechanical skills. I have a coop with a small swing out door, can I install a prefab automatic coop door over the existing door? How difficult is it to add to the coop?

I have had the Ador1 auto door for a year now, and LOVE it! I installed it myself. It was very very very easy. All you do is place the auto door over the opening to the coop (existing door) and screw it in place with 4 screws. It was a cinch, it took 15 minutes at most! It works like a mini garage door with gears, so predators can't lift the door open to get in. It was painful to put $200 out to buy it, but it's been worth every single penny and more.

One time, I was having trouble with my photo-sensor, so I called the company. The owner talked to me, he was super nice and supportive. He told me how to clean the sensor connection to get it to work again, which was super easy to do. Now I know that I should do that once in awhile. Great purchase, great company!

You can see the installation process on their website:
