Automatic chicken door and predators

Hello,
I understand this bear not being taken care of is an issue but it sounds like no one is willing to get rid of it for you. How strong is your electric fence? because I used a very weak electric fence to stop a fox (nothing compared to a bear I know) My point is that if you get the strength right he will stear clear of your chickens. I have lots of big livestock around my farm including horses that are larger than an average bear and and once they touch the fence once they never go near it again. If you cant shoot it the fence should do the trick depending on the strength and his persistance.

Thanks Rugbygainz. The fence is 2.3 joules, around 15k volts. The box is in the coop so the bear can't really knock it off. My husband also got diamond plate for the door to the run and reinforced the track with 2x4's so it can't be pushed in. Right now it is manual but he will hook up an actuator and timer to it so that it will be automatic. Fingers crossed! I will wait for the weather to be warmer next week and then put out some donuts behind the wire to teach the bear that it's there. If the bear is around when I'm home I'll also shoot it.
