automatic coop door opener

I've been looking into them as well... the least expensive one I've found is the "add a motor" type, which you have to plug into a timer. I'm looking into converting it to battery-powered, since I don't want to run electric out to my coop.

Thank you for your reply

Can you give me the name of the company that makes this opener. I do have electricity in my coop which is being used for a fan these hot nights but I think might work. THANKS . . ..Sue

I saw one on another thread made from an electric retractable car radio antenna. Those can be bought new for ~$35 so one from a salvage yard would only be half that. Think of the antenna coming up when you turn your car on & going back down when you turn it off. Mount the antenna assembly inverted with a bracket from the end of the antenna to the top of the door. When the antenna retracts it lifts the door open. This would be a simple door that slides up in down in a track. A timer circuit could set it to open & close at whatever time you want. It could run on a 12VDC battery with a float charger if you have 110VAC available. It would take some fabrication / home brew skills but looked easy enough. I have looked at all of the $100+ commercially available one but think I will try this 1st....
