Automatic coop door - summing it up

There are quite few of the threads on auto pop doors as you mentioned and I think Ms rosemarythyme and myself are always involved in them 😂
I think it's probably because I'm one of the few people on here who doesn't wake up at the crack of dawn. Crack of 9 AM is more like it. :) I spent 2 years manually opening and closing the coop daily, so no thanks, don't want to be doing that.

I have them for convenience. Through the week, I am up and gone. Before the sun is even opening and rubbing it’s eyes. We also have other animals, so with the automatic doors. There is one less thing on my to do list, before I leave for the day. I am not that concerned with security. Since the pop doors only allow access from the coops to the runs. Which are well built and secure against most predators. The bear population in my area is growing. So I need to build an electric fence around my chickens area. Which will hopefully deter them from destroying my facilities.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience!

I know there have been numerous posts on automatic coop doors, including which ones are the best. I’m wondering if folks can tell me why they have one, the pluses and the minuses, and whether it’s better to install one before I put chickens in the coop. Thank you!
I for one have a few reasons.

I like automation
Security for the flock
It's a hobby
Peace of mind
Entertainment
Convenience
I DIY

As to having an automatic door in an already closed up coop with run, well it is mostly just added security. Just in case a predator gets in. Even the smaller predators like rats and snakes. Of course this applies mostly to closed bottom coops.
