Automatic Electronic Doorkeeper aka: Pop Door Opener

I get real cold winters. I wonder what the R value of lexan vs wood would be?

I wonder what "R value" is! LOL

Its a measure of somethings insulation ability. The higher the R value the better insulator.

Ah. Thanks for the info.

We bought ours at Foy's. Here's the link. http://www.foyspigeonsupplies.com/catalog/2100-2107.html
I
call it a "necessary luxury". Wouldn't live without it!

I just ordered my automatic door from Foy's. Since we start construction on the concrete pad poured last week, I figure it will be a good investment. Yeah, it's pricey; however, when I cost it out over the years I hope to make use of this coop, it's a price I'm willing to pay. Thanks for posting the info and such great photos. It really inspired me to get this coop done right.

I also have the Foy's Electronic Doorkeeper, mounted inside, with light sensor through the wall on the outside.

I LOVE IT.

The selling point was battery operation, and NOT a car, lawnmower or other 12v type battery hookup. (One of the options I found online used such, and the company owner replied to one of my e-mail inquiries with a rather derisive response when I asked about AAA or AAAA or C, or D batteries.)

But the Foy's automatic door is wonderful. Install it so the metal door slides past the bottom of the opening in the coop wall, so no critter claws can reach down to pull it up. The metal track keeps it tight enough so paws - or people hands! - cannot push it up, either.

Way to work the male psyche, brilliantly done!

Anyone used the "Automatic Chicken Coop Door" from chickencoopdoor.com (in Utah)?

I like the Lexan idea, too...nice to have another window for the girls. Does Home Depot sell Lexan sheets?

Something about the idea of predators peering through the run's hardware cloth and the lexan into the coop doesn't sit quite right with me. I have seen Lexan at Home Depot and Lowes.

We just built our second coop and I'm wondering whether folks recommend a pop door opener OTHER THAN the VSB system that Foy's sells.
