Automatic feeder or manual feeding?

What is better for feeding your chickens? An auto feeder or manually feeding them say twice a day?

I currently have a hanging 10lb auto feeder and it seems like I'm constantly filling it. Like they're eating too much?

I don't think they will overeat on their feed but they will waste a lot from flicking it out of the feeders. This style of feeder is the one that has worked best for us and really cut down on waste:

I found another brand with the same type of design at a local feed store for about $10 less than the one I reviewed and both have worked out well for us.

I reverted to hand feeding 3 or 4 times a day for awhile last summer. Due to a mild winter, the domestic rabbits that escaped from the lady across the street were breeding like crazy. They were eating more chicken feed than the chickens. She loaned us traps to catch the rabbits and that helped bring the numbers down.

Look around. Perhaps you also have rabbits eating food. I've also heard that some birds will get into the chicken feed. We also discovered that the squirrels will eat chicken feed.
