If I had more free time, id be willing to build this kind of stuff for people, but i cant for free..


Im just trying to figure out ways to speed up my chore time for the chickens.. Im sure I will find something else to build to help with that soon.

One of the fittings for the black polyethelene tubing is an end cap or plug. You can get tees, elbows and threaded fittings to add in valves or connect to pvc if you so desire. I drill a 21/64 hole in the end cap and tap it out with a 1/8 x 27 tap which fits the nipples or water cups perfectly. There is really no need to over tighten the nipples as you will pull the threads out, finger tight is good with maybe a wrap or two of teflon tape. You get much better threads this way then drilling 11/32 or 23/64 and screwing in the nipple. I have simplified this whole system since I took this picture by dropping it down to chicken height and eliminating the last elbow when I took out the nipples and put in auto cups I'll try to get a picture in a couple days.

Here's the link at the Big Blue Box Home Improvement Store that shows the end plug. Hopefully this will work as each tie it takes me to my local store. It is a Genova 3/4" insert plug in case you have to search for it. You can find all the parts by clicking around on this page.

To put this kind of pipe and fittings together get a heat gun -$15 hairdryer on steroids- at your local hardware or harbor freight and heat the pipe then simply and quickly push it over the fittings. You can cut the pipe with a utilty knife or pvc cutter.

Are the nipple and cup threads NPT(national pipe thread)? Important distinction when spending buck on a tap.

YES, they are 1/8-27 NPT and use a 21/64 drill bit for the best fit. I have a tap right here in my hand and that is what is stamped in it.
