My son gave me for Christmas a 3 1/2 gal. automatic waterer with 4 nipples for my flock of 8 chickens and one rooster. I plan to build a frame for it to hang from because it has a bail for that purpose. Roo is just under 2 ft. tall and of course the girls are shorter. how far from the ground should the nipples be? I see nothing on the label that gives a recommendation. I have designed and built my coop, pen and chicken swing so this should not be difficult with a few helpful suggestions. Thanks a million. Welcome to BYC!

Nipples are in bottom of bucket?
Nipples should be a couple inches higher than the tallest birds head.
Bricks can be put under bucket for shorter birds to stand on so they can reach.

Are you in a place that it freezes?

Sorry I have been off for a while. Stuff happens.
All is well with the waterer. I built a frame to hang it from and have the bottom about 18 inches up from the ground. The chickens and rooster are doing fine with it.
Thanks for all your help.
