Hi all! I am designing my girls' watering system and wanted to see if anyone out there has made one that hooks up to the garden hose spigot (with a pressure regulator) and in the winter used a heated garden hose to keep it from freezing? I am planning to have one in the run and one in the coop that is used only in the winter. Will the coop be warm enough to keep the nipples/pvc part from freezing? Ideas, suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Get a plastic barrel and install horizontal nipples on exterior. As many as you need, at chicken height. All around. Have a stock tank deicer inside. The water will not freeze inside, and the horizontal nipples should also stay unfrozen. Are you unable to maintain water amount for long periods of time to want pressurized water supply constant??
What is the number of chickens you need to provide water for??

Do you not use a pump with the above system?

The Thread starter never responded, so I never provided more info.
The system with nipples installed on a long horizontal pipe would need a circulating system in place. Cold in winter is constant, so there would be a possibility of a freeze-up somewhere along water path. Complete system then stops functioning.
What I suggested,, a barrel, with a tank heater inside, could use a circulating pump inside to mix the water inside barrel. But not totally necessary.
Did this answer your question,

Thanks. We’ve been running the above for 2y but with a pump bc it will freeze where we live. Lost power and rain barrel didn’t freeze but pump did - 2y in a row. Looking for a better pump situation.
