Automatic waterer

I’m thinking of making an automatic waterer for my chickens and was just wondering what kind of bucket I should use what I mean by that is should the bucket be food grade bpa free etc or can I just use any old bucket from Home Depot that has a lid?

Regular old 5 gallon bucket will do. While a clear bucket is easy to see water level inside it will eventually cause algae growth. Dark buckets that stop the light inside will greatly reduce if not stop algae growth
