Autopsied Chicken - WARNING: GRAPHIC PICTURE

Usually a distended abdomen and having yellow to dark amber fluid inside is ascites (water belly.) The nodules are most likely cancer. Oviduct cancer is very common. Ascites can be a result of cancer, liver disease or fatty liver, egg yolk peritonitis, and heart failure. This thread is 11 years old, but you can always post necropsy pictures on here or on a new thread of your own. Sorry for your loss.
Is there a remedy for ascites other than attempting to drain with a hypodermic needle? Have there been studies on feed supplies containing GMO's? I have read horror stories from farmers raising cows feeding GMO grains.

Ascites (water belly) is a condition that is eventually fatal. Draining does not help treat it or make it go away, but will only provide some temporary relief of pressure, pain, or help improve breathing. I usually don’t drain my hens who have it, but did drain one who was having labored breathing. She still died within a couple of weeks. Causes of water belly are liver disease caused by reproductive infections, cancer, heart failure, or fatty liver disease. Doing a necropsy after a hen dies to examine the organs will sometimes give you some answers to what caused it.

No, no permanent remedies.
It's not the feed but the birds.
