Avacado tree

There's a great place that we are thinking of building the chicken coop and run but there is only one problem. I've heard that avacadoes are bad for chickens yet where we want to put them there's a huge tree. I'm pretty sure the chickens will peck and eat the ones that fall on the ground so what do we do? Could we put a net around it to catch the avacadoes?
