i just do a google search in their images (look at the top left of Google for images) and then save what I like to "My pictures" folder. They end up smaller there. Then upload it to here and see if it fits!

my avatar is a actual picture of sign i have and i edited my picture size wise and loaded it onto photobucket then copied and pasted the code.

photobucket has avatars too, i am pretty sure you can find one there if you don't have a picture you want to use of your own.

I found mine in some clipart and thought it was cute. I resized it. I think I used photobucket to upload it. Here is a site where you may get some ideas.
