I was just wondering what everyone's hatch percentage was on shipped eggs. I just hatched only 50% of the 10 eggs that made into my incubator, and one of my babies may not make it through the night.

Prior to my last hatch I got less than 50% with two hatches.

Last hatch I got 65%.

This hatch I think I'll do even better.

From what I've read, that's a good hatch for shipped eggs. Bummer, huh? I'm sure someone will chime in with the statistics for you, but I thought you might be encouraged to know that you did well this time! Good luck with the baby that is having a tough time.

I just finished hatching 2 shipped orders, 1 was 12 eggs the other 13 and I got 4 from each batch

Thanks for your positive thoughts, ADozenGirlz. I feel a little better about my percentage. But, I don't know what to do about this one chick. She/he seems to be having some neurological and gross motor issues and isn't drinking or eating. Do I let her go naturally or do I get my husband to cull? Tough question...

I use a broody to hatch chicks for me, and my first batch of shipped eggs was 12 silkie eggs from Utah to New Mexico. Ten developed, eight hatched. So I had 66% out of the original 12. I thought that was great. My second batch of shipped eggs came from the east coast to New Mexico, and the air cells were scrambled and loose, and none ever developed. The next batch was from the east coast to New Mexico, 6 shipped, 4 arrived intact, two never developed and two hatched. Now I've got 11 bantam cochin eggs from Indiana to New Mexico on day 10 under my broody. I'm going to candle tonight, and I'm really hoping for veining in all of them.

So I think it is all luck of the draw, mostly depending on how they are handled in transit.

What would we do without our willing husbands? I don't know the answer to the problem with your chick b/c I'm just not that experienced with those kinds of problems, I can suggest that you post it in the "Emergencies, diseases, Injuries and Cures" section OR in the "Raising Baby Chicks" section where it might get different exposure. Good luck. We're rooting for her!
