Avian Pox question

I noticed what looks like a blackish/brownish spot on my turkeys snood and now it's on his waddles and I have 2 hens with the sopts on their waddles & combs. The spots are dry. Their behavior is normal. I read that I was suppose to treat with Terrimycin so I added it in the waters tonight. Now I am reading not to use antibotics. So I am confused???

What should do??? Just use betadine to dry out the spots quicker and/or give them antibotics? They don't anything ozzing bloodly or wet. Just dry spots.

Also how did they all sudden get them? I keep everything clean - the pens, fresh water with vitamin & electrolites (cause it's so hot) fresh good quaility feed and fresh watermelons & grapes often. I take such good care of my birds and really care about each and everyone of them. I know this is not personal ....it just pisses me off! Don't want my birds in pain.

Please advise.

tooth paste dries them up...takes a few days to dry off might be a week or so before gone. could have gotten from bird in the area. yard birds

Pox is caused by mosquitos and theres really nothing you can do to make it better, it has to run its course. You can do the secondary things like toothpaste, black shoe polish, iodine, etc to make them dry up faster. Dry pox don't usually cause any deaths, but wet pox that form in the mouth, throat and eyes can cause them to die from not being able to eat and drink and such. The good news is that once they have the pox, they don't get it again. Just do what you always do and it will go away in 10-14 days.

mine just got over the avian pox i put iodine on all the spots 1 time and it dried up the spot and they werent laying but now they are so it worked great

Thank you! So I will remove the anitbobics - change the water and just put vitamins and eletrolites. It is already 102 here! thanks again - I doctor them daily and wathc all the rest for signs.
