Aviary

I'm wanting to build and Aviary and I would like it it have a little bit of varriety can i keep ringneck doves with manderins and woodducks? I would also like to have so red golden or lady amherst pheasant in my display to but beleive due to the aggressive nature of the cocks I would have to at least partition them off from the other birds. Any question or comments would be appreciated. and if you have an aviary of this type i would also like to see pics to give me ideas if you are able to post or send them.

Doves can be kept with both the species you mentioned as well as a variety of pheasants. The males will present little problems to the other birds if plenty of room and enrichment is given.

I assume Quail and partridge would be out of the question due to the water source needed for the ducks and their tendency to drown.

(i know this is true for bobwhite at least)

If you are going with a shallow pond with a gradual slope for the sides or a stream-like source, you could be alright with some of the ornamental species. I wouldn't go with Chukar, Bobwhite, or Coturnix in a mixed species exhibit unless you had lots of room.

As far as my interest in quail and partrige i like the call of bobs but thought about valley no experience with them and partridge i heard chukar don't do well on the ground always wanted to try huns though. Not sure how huns and vally quail would do out side i live in eastern kansas we get some cold winters and hot summers and lots of humidity i would probably only beable to supply a cut ceder or so small to med boxes for cover. as far as a water supply i was thinking a rubber pond liner 18" deep and a 3x5 oval 6' circle somewhere in this size i just know quail aren't the smartest birds after raising bobs when i was younger they would always drown and killed 100 dayolds in 3 days due to smothering in the brooder (couldn't get my lamp at the right height).
