Avocado trees near chickens?

Welcome to BYC

I LOVE ❤️ avocados 🥑!! I ate them as a young kid and will forever love them (way before avocado toast became a thing 😂)

How did you grow your tree? Did you get one from a nursery? Or grew it from a pit? How old is it??

I know it's a gamble on the trees producing avocados if grown from the pit but I’m still tryin with a ton!! 😂
We had avacados growing up in South Texas and my mother would force me to eat some every day because I ate some by choice one time but really hated all fruit and vegetables. Not saying for sure that my dear mother was a terrible at raising children, but I do seem to have this permanent eating disorder. My favorite vegetable is potato chips.

My late father-in-law was planting every avacado, pit mango pit and papaya seed for many years on this property. Occasionally, one would turned into a productive tree. Then my wife started doing the same thing plus occasionally bringing in a small tree from the nursery. She is some sort of avacado connoisseur now. There are favorite trees and some she will only take fruit from in avacado desperation.

My kids don't like avocados. I don’t bother forcing them to eat any. I always do encourage to at least taste test fruits and veggies.

That sounds about what I’m doing right now. Any seeds or pits I get from fruit I will plant. Well except cantaloupe since there's a ton and no one in my tiny family likes cantaloupe 😔 😂

I have a ton of avocado pits that are already at the cracked stage. One is already a foot and a half tall tree-ish. And another barely has the little E.T.-phone-home sprout coming through 😂
