A few weeks ago my duck contracted good ol' bumble foot.. I was cleaning her foot everyday and doing the process of pulling the scab and it got really small and looked great. So since she was inside for 2 weeks I let her outside and shes been out with all the other ducks. Its been about 2 weeks that shes been outside.... Well she looked like she was standing funny and tonight I looked at her foot and its absolutely grose! I thought it was bad the first time, it got HUGE and just wrong... Even my Dad when I showed him had said Holy ****!!! So thats how I know its bad.... And since she was walking werid the other foot has a super tiny one.. So tomarrow my Bf and his Mom<< (maybe) will cut it open and just get the plug out. Im seriously sick of this bumble foot crap and im going to be going on vacation this week so its going to be up to my parents to keep it cleaned up (which I feel bad about). My mom had suggested giving her to somone that is willing to help her fully and have the time (which I am able but my Mom is giving me a hard time over it) or even culling her!!! Which I will NEVER EVER do. Unless she was in pain and already dieing.... So im hopeing his Mom is willing to do this with him. I feel beyond bad for this duck. Any tips or advice from anyone?

There is something still in the foot, I think. I don't know if removing the plug will remove the object that started the whole thing. Take a look at Mildred's bumblefoot story if you can find it using the search.

You are going to need to rely on others if you need to be away. That is difficult for me, as I know few people as devoted to my ducks as I am. But friends are what we have, and they will do the best they know how. Often I just don't go places if I am concerned about a duck's health.

Wel ive told my dad what hes going to have to do. They are going to open it up and take anything forein out and clean it. We are also going to use an injectable penicillin and wrap it and put neosporin on it. My dad has -some- expirence with having to clean grose cuts and wounds and needles so0o he should be ok. And the trip was scheduled back in january >.< Hes not too worried about the duck he belives shell be fine once their done getting the crud out. If it continues im going o ues that potato idea to help. So shes currently soaking in warm water and i washed her a little with an all natural oatmeal shampoo so shes not smelly for the surgery. Im hopeing it goes well :)
