I was looking over my hens and roosters, then I got confused and saw something strange. One of my RIR hens has a weird lump that's about the size of a baseball. It is on around her crop, but off to the side. I haven't felt it, but it looks strange on a small little gal like her. I don't know if it's urgent or not...

You may want to check her at daylight before she has had anything to eat or drink, to feel if the large crop has emptied. Make sure she has water and access to granite grit at all times. If her crop has not gone down, you may want to place her in a crate with water, but no food for a few hours to see if it has gone down. Then do some research on impacted, sour, or pendulous crops.

It sounds pretty large, but that can happen with an impacted or pendulous crop. Google "pendulous crop in chickens." Two Crows has good info on impacted crop treatment. Make sure that you have a problem first, by checking the crop in early morning. A hard crop in early morning may be impacted. If it feels puffy, it may be sour crop. Pendulous crop is from overeating for a period of time, and the crop can become stretched. Crop bras are sometimes used to help treat that.

It might be Pendulous crop, because when I checked her this morning, it was empty. I'll have to see today or tomorrow if she is eating a little too much.
