Dear friends,
Today I have had to take the decision to send my 1 year old Aylesbury drake to the farm he had hatched at so he can be rehomed.
I have had the pair of Aylesbury duck and drake for a year now. But in the last two months the duck suffered from bumblefoot and it was a very long battle including many vet visits, operations, xrays and so on. I am pleased to say that despite all odds my duck seems to have left the worst behind. I have been keeping her in my home office for the last 10 days and she has made a good recovery from her bumblefoot operation and antibiotics treatment. Hopefully, I will write another thread on her treatment once she is fully recovered so I could share my experience with others.
All along the drake has been fine and he was out in the garden/pond alone. Yesterday they were united. But since then he has been aggressively mating with her so much so that recently grown feathers on her neck were pulled out in less than 24 hours. He is a big bully in mating, although I consider them as good friends too.
I know it is usually recommended that either they are kept separate or at least 3-4 ducks are kept with a single drake so each duck get less of a battering. It is impossible for me to keep them separate all the time, especially in the pond, forever. I cannot get another two three ducks either, I simply don't have the space or the energy to look after them. I seem to have exhausted a lot of effort on treating the bumblefoot and I could not stand my duck getting bullied/hurt after all I have had to go through for her.
So with a heavy heart I have decided to put the drake up for adoption. I took him to the farm nearby where I got them from and explained the situation to the guy. He says he has somewhat some demand for drakes for larger flocks and he might be able to find another home. He promised that he would not sell him for meat but then again for how long...
So this is to let all of you BYC folk in Southern England know that there is a beautiful, healthly, strong Aylesbury drake in that farm. And I can share the details of the farm/farmer if anyone is interested. (In Beds/Bucks)

The drake is the one at the front. Anyone with a genuine interest please let me know. I would want someone who would provide him with a good home and longevity.
Thanks
Huseyin
