I have a Pilgrim Goose who has decided to go broody out in the middle of my square foot garden... Of course, I'm not too happy cause daddy is quite the guard dog and I will soon need to plant. But, what I'm most worried about is her getting sick being in the cold with no shelter. Have any of you had luck with your broody goose nesting out like a wild goose? Also, it is 34 degrees here today. Won't that kill the gosling?

THanks for your suggestions.

I'm guessing the egg/gosling will stay worm under mommy- the best bet if you think moving her will break her broodyness and she'll quit is to leave her and keep an eye on her health, she is still a goose with all the goosy things she needs to be broody.

Can you put an A-frame together with some cheap plywood and build it with a back wall. You can then lift the whole thing over the goose with nest and all. That should give her some protection from the elements and wind protect the nest on top of that. I have a big bunch of them for my ducks to hang around when the weather is miserably cold and windy. They love them. Each one cost me about 15 dollars to make, but they are large enough for 10 heavy weight ducks to go under. You don't need one that large.

We have a ton of stuff here for geese to take shelter under, semi trailers, old tractors, office trailers, trees, old logs, woodpiles, you name it, so we don't worry about them. I have 3 rather nice goose nesting houses built, and 2 are in use. I suspect I may have a 3rd nest somewhere and if I find it, I'll take the unused goose house and put it over the nest. They're the A-frame type.
