Going to cheerfully resurrect this thread, because my Dorking, Dora, laid her first egg today! She’s a late maturer, as all the info on the breed says, 7 months! Her egg is definitely pure white, not cream or tinted like I think they’re supposed to be. Doesn’t particularly matter to me, just interesting. Hello everyone!

I have a 20 week old Dorking pullet (Lorna) who's not doing very well. She's been to the avian vet near where I live, and now I'm following his advice and crop-feeding her 10ml 4 times daily.

Does anyone know how much a 20 week old Dorking pullet should weigh? I know Lorna needs to gain weight, but I don't know how much and when to stop supporting her.

Unfortunately there's no one in Idaho who breeds Dorkings (or if they do there's no trace of them on the internet). The closest is Bliss Butte Ranch in Oregon, other than that you'll have to buy eggs from a good breeder and have them mailed. If you aren't looking for breeding quality birds I got my Dorking hen from Murray McMurray.

I just got chicks from SandHill Preservation. They have a website, but all orders need to be done via snail mail. You are going to have to wait till next year before you get them because they are almost sold out. They are a fiar price and they are of decent quality. I would avoid Murray McMurray, their line of Silver Greys have round eggs. I think that the round eggs are annoying since you have to candle them before you put them in the incubator. I had them a few years ago and they were a little flighty and loud too.

I live in a cold northern climate and I have heard Dorkings can lay through the winter.

I want to get some Dorking chickens to see if this is true. Since I live in a cold climate I do not want Dorkings with a single comb.

Who knows of a good source for rose comb Dorking chickens? Fertile eggs are also an option and are preferred as to chicks.
