Ba-gawking at 3:30 am from my hen?

* Swamp creatures, Wynette-- LoL!! Big 3" Florida cockroach--They show up s/t after it rains & fly straight at your head!! FREAK ME OUT!! I kill em with a shot of wintergreen alcohol in a spray btl. First FL bug I ever "met" when I was 8 and one jumped on me & ran up my leg-- 4o yrs. later they STILL freak me out. . . .

YIKES! The chickens don't eat them....please tell me they're not too big to eat....seems like that'd be an entire meal! Are those the ones that "talk"?

*I think you mean Malaysian Hissers-- They're supposed to be here, too -- but I told DH if I EVER see one I'll WALK the 6oo miles out of here if I haue to!!! They're euen bigger. I suppose some chickens will eat palmetto bugs-- I just figured Chook doesn't like the taste or maybe its the barbed legs or something. . .

Yep the only time my chickens ever made noise in the middle of the night was when something was trying to get to them. The last time it was a coon and he got my two little black Silkies

He got clean away with one and I caught him with the other. Then all 3 were dead.

The next night went fine...I think she must have been spooked and glad everything went well. A neighbor's dog keeps getting out and wandering around...perhaps he went by? So far he isn't interested in them, but I'm keeping a watchful I and am going to have to talk to the owner (dreading it...they're really neglecting and abusing the dog, so I don't quite know how to handle it!)

But...who knows...we also got our FIRST EGG today!! So maybe someone was just sitting a little funny....

Mama laid her second egg today...we saw her in action. AMAZING! So I have a feeling she was just getting a little spooked by her body getting geared up when she had her late night ruckus (FWIW, we live in suburbia, so it never gets totally dark, far from it).

YAY!

(And I'm amazed she was the one, since her comb/wattles darkened a couple fo weeks later than the other girls).
