I have dairy sheep that hopefully will lamb this spring so we can milk them for cheese making. I have fiber sheep that are sheered for spinning. I have some crossbred sheep that have thick wool and good meat that are used for meat and the wool will be sheered for quilt batting. Also the butchered lambs we have the hides tanned for bed rugs. Theram lamb I did in the fall had a 4 foot long hide that should come from the tanners in about a month or so.

Dorcas is a beautiful name and not one I chose lightly. Her story is told in Acts 9:36 - 42. Her name was Tabitha which is translated as Dorcas. She was a disciple of Christ and did many good works. She clothed the poor from garments she had made herself.

Here is her story -

Act 9:36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.

Act 9:37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid [her] in an upper chamber.

Act 9:38 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring [him] that he would not delay to come to them.

Act 9:39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.

Act 9:40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning [him] to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

Act 9:41 And he gave her [his] hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.

Act 9:42 And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.

What better name for a beautiful ewe whose wool will be use to make warm garments?

Thank you, Miss_Jayne.

For those that might be interested -

Both lambs got an injection of BO-Se yesterday evening and 5 grams of pro-bios beneficial bacteria for ruminants.

We went over to the lady with a huge herd of milking goats and got 2 - 20ounce bottles of goat colostrum for them too.

At first Dorcas was kicking and pushing the white on away from her every time it tried to suck. We rolled her back on her butt so she couldn't fight us and I put the baby on her teats and let it suck both sides until it chose to unlatch. When we went out to check last night she was letting the baby suckle. If she doesn't continue with good behavior I have 6 gallons of goat milk and more colostrum in the freezer. We'll just bottle feed it.

What cute babies!

Congrats, MissP!

Thank you for sharing that story/scripture with us all. What a neat way for Dorcus to have inherited her name.

They are ram lambs. One we will keep through fall to breed with a selection of ewes and one will either be sold or be go to live in the freezer this fall. It is completely undecided int he details as there are 6 more ewes that should be bred but we don't know yet for sure if they will lamb. It is really hard to tell. We are on lamb watch.
