I would of done the same as Emzyyy and personally think all those still wanting to tell her how bad she is for taking care of this fawn need to just leave her alone!!! She has a great head on her shoulders and is helping a fawn NOT SELLING DRUGS which is a BIG CRIME. I also think some of you guys are going overboard with this and need to find another thread to voice your opinion and leave the poor girl alone. She followed her heart and I commend her for that and admire her for her courage. I hope she keeps us updated as to the fawns outcome and keeps posting pics for the rest of us to enjoy. Thank you Emzyyy for this post I have enjoyed it immensely.

i wonder why babe was in the middle of the road.maybe the mom was hit by a car and the fawn tried looking for her but got exhausted and sat on the road and tried calling to the mom.As a matter of fact,i see lots of lost fawns.! 1 actually walked 1 yard away from me!

From what little I know of fawn behavior, the fact that this baby was in the middle of the road making noise is not normal. What's done is done in this case, and it sounds like Emzzy & her family are trying to take the steps necessary to ensure the deer will have a normal, wild life.

Deer sometimes hide their fawns and leave the area for hours at a time.
Its really hard to make people understand that, said Omler, whos caring for four fawns, but she believes only one was orphaned a dead doe was discovered nearby.
Omler feeds the fawns goat-milk formula three times a day but says shes no substitute for a mother deer.
If you come upon a fawn, look at it; take some pictures; and walk away, she said.
Wildlife officials dont know what to do.
People just have a hard time leaving a cute, little fawn alone, said Chip Corsi, regional supervisor for Idaho Department of Fish and Game in Coeur dAlene.
We put the message out every year, but it doesnt seem to resonate, said Madonna Luers, a spokeswoman for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Over the past two weeks, WDFWs Spokane office has fielded an average of six calls per day from people who found fawns in the woods, Luers said. On one day, the office handled 18 fawn-related calls. In most cases, the callers were persuaded to return the fawns to the place where they were found, in hopes they could be reunited with their mothers.
The birthing season for local deer typically runs from mid-May to late June.
Fawns are born without a scent, which makes them difficult for predators to detect. Mothers leave their fawns for four to six hours at a time, returning to nurse. The absent-mother parenting is a protective mechanism. It keeps does from leading coyotes and cougars to their babies.
Its the way their life history works, Corsi said. They tuck the little guys away where they can be secure. The behavior has been in place at least since the last Ice Age.
Newborn fawns lie motionless in the grass, camouflaged by their spots. Theyre vulnerable to fawn-napping during the first 10 days of their life. After that, theyre too fast to catch.
In late September, the fawn-napped deer will be released on 270 acres of private land near Deer Park, which adjoins state-owned property.

Yaay, lets play Tear eachother up over opinions! You really think you'll change someones opinions? As to speculation.. the whole thing about taking the deer for that reason was speculation. As for big crimes, I think Ticks meant that you can get charged a pretty big fine for doing this if found out. The adults would be the ones paying.
as for the gender, as far as I've read, she thought it was a girl, and has just been calling it a her. I think she might need to read about animal anatomy a bit before she confirms its gender.

I vote for eating it once it gets big enough. Chances are a hunter will shoot it anyway, you might as well get the meat for yourself! If its a buck.. well you wouldn't like my advice. I'm sure enough of us would enjoy hearing about a 'tamed' wild animal that hurt someone. My family has an elk ranch, I know what damage these kind of animals can do.
