Babies have arrived! Pics! And now with video!

Sleepy girls have had a busy day.
I think they have already grown!

I got up this morning, went to check on the ducklets, and the spare bathroom was DARK. Oh crap. Flipped on the overhead light, and everyone was ok, everyone was just really confused. The fixture for the heat lamp had failed. The fixture and the lamp had been given to us, and I never thought to check the wattage or the rating of the fixture. We had a 250W bulb in a fixture that was only rated for 125W. I suppose we're lucky we didn't burn the house down.

So, I grabbed my heating pad, put it in their "transport tote", put a fluffy towel over the top, and put all of my babies in there to warm up while I went down to the co-op. At 6am. I got a fixture rated for 300W, and got a new, downsized heat lamp to put in it. I needed to drop the temps anyway, so I went to a 125W clear bulb. Much better for pictures, too!

Anyway, the kids are all ok, when I put them back in the newly repaired brooder they ate like they were starving. I imagine they didn't eat anything while it was dark, plus the hour it took me to replace the fixture. They're all napping with full bellies, now.

Hehe, aww, so precious...I'm glad they're okay. I love how they're attacking that towel as if to say "You food? No? Not food...where food?!"

Soo glad they all survived. Thanks for posting this, I'm going to make sure my fixture is okay. I did buy a 125 watt clear heat lamp bulb and finally got a thermometer yesterday. I'm having the hardest time getting the temp right at 90 degrees. But my brooder is all set-up.. I think. I'll post pictures later, because I want to make sure I'm not forgetting anything!

I had a really hard time getting the temp right, too. I pointed the lamp at one end, so they could go to that end if they got cold, but move away if it got too warm.

Thank you, I feel a little better. That is what I have also done. I have it at one end of that stock tank, so they can definitely move away if they get too hot.
