I decided the babies were finally old enough to journey outside today with their mamas. Horray!! Everything went smoothly. The three mamas kept a close eye on all twelve of the keets - showing them all the good spots in the yard to hunt for ticks.
They are so cute! How exciting. I am waiting on our mama guinea's eggs to hatch. This is my first time raising them with mama. Did you still use a heat lamp even tho mama was with them?
Nope, no need to use a heat lamp. The inside of the coop was hot, due to the heat of summer, and at night time, they all huddled up underneath the mamas. Good luck with your babies!
I'm glad yours are good mamas! I don't know why guineas have a bad rep as mothers. Mine are doing great with theirs - wait until yours start teaching your keets how to roost. It's really funny! Here's a pic of my gang. They're 7 weeks old now.
I have read that they are bad mothers but as protective as my mama is over her nest I think she will be even more protective once they hatch. When she takes a few minutes break from sitting she chases my 3 geese if they get too close to the area near her nest and they run from her. I can't wait to watch her with her babies. Your guineas look happy and content.
