4 dead keets in 4 days

Probably a silly question since you are doing lots of research, but I fell victim to this last year and lost a few of my keets.. are you warming their water? I didn't have an issue with the keets that I picked up and drove home 2 years ago, but the ones I had delivered last year were weaker and needed that warm water.. good luck! I feel your pain, I've been there :(

Not a silly question at all! Yes, I was giving warm water, both plain & with PND. Knock on wood, it’s been almost 3 days since we’ve lost one. I have a sneaking suspicion it was due to the ambient temperature in the garage being too warm & they didn’t have a place to cool off. They’re in the house now and all but one seem to be thriving. The one that’s not is much smaller than the others, but is eating & drinking so I’m hoping she’ll hang in there!

2 week guinea keet update:
We moved the keets to their coop 3 days ago (12 days old) and put them back on pine shavings & under the heat plate. We’ve not had any additional losses since #4 at 5 days old. If I were to do it all again, there are a few changes I’d make: first, I’d start brooding them in the house where it’s a bit cooler and keep them on towels for the first week or so. I’d also clean the brooder, waterers & feeders thoroughly before use. I’m super thankful things are trending in the right direction & hope it continues. I’m grateful for the BYC community’s advice!

Nearly 8 week update: we’ve not had any additional deaths after the first week, and the remaining birds are growing quickly! We’re going to start letting them free range soon, but for now they’re (hopefully) getting used to the idea of the coop as their home. Here’s a picture of the 13 tweens!
