Babies wasting feed...what to do?

Let the feeder run empty, and they will "dig" through the bedding to get at the food there. When that's all gone then replace the feed in the feeder.

That's what I do. I don't throw away any feed.

When they are new babies I will put paper towels down under the dish, and lay hardware cloth over it, so when they kick it out it gets held up where they can find it. The hardware cloth helps keep them from scratching holes in the paper towel for a few days, until they get stronger and better at feeding themselves.
