We swore we weren’t getting anymore chicks UNTIL I was able to find Sebrights locally:celebrate lol, I’ve been wanting to add some to our flock since we first got chickens!! I absolutely love the rare breeds :) Anywho, we ended up with 3 Sebrights, 2 silver laced Wyandotte’s, 2 Sicilian buttercups, 2 white rocks, a buff Orpington, and 1 golden polish because I recently lost my girl:hit Although we have plenty of polish, some barred rocks and blue laced red Wyandotte’s, I’m still looking for any pointers on these breeds!! What’s everyone’s experience with these types?

My orpingtons are my best friends! I have 2 buff. They are very sweet and cuddly.

I had a silver laced wyandotte long ago but more recently I had the golden laced variety. They are not as friendly as the orpingtons but still were calm and docile.

My Buttercup, Lopsy, is flighty and only on special occasions does she ever sit with me.

I had buff laced and silver laced polish, but not golden. The goldens probably act the same though. My polish needed hair cuts every few months. Once they could she they became very sweet and relaxed birds. Chickens who can't see are flighty!

White rocks are probably like Barred rocks. I don't know, I have never owned them! I have a rule at my house not to get any white chickens. Where I live, they become red from the dirt.:D

I have never had any bantams so I can't say anything about the seabrights other than you are going to have to separate them at some point. You don't want the little ones to be trampled!

Aww! New chicks are the best! Are you going to separate the bantams from the standards when they get older? Seabrights are a bantam chicken. They are much small than other breeds of chickens.

I have a buttercup hen named Lopsy. She will turn one in March!:celebrate
Love the name!! How’s her temperament? They are undeniably a beautiful breed!! And yes, we will most likely be separating as we have 4 other bantams that are still fairly young for them to “hang” with

Any tips for trimming their feathers? I’ve been thinking about this with my silver polish, especially my “Fancy Boy” he is so sweet and I feel bad bc he gets excited when he hears my voice but struggles to see me :barnie

I use a pair of scissors and get my sister to hold the polish. I am then very careful when snipping around their eyes in order to not hurt them. You need to make sure that no feathers get into their eyes because they could get an infection. I only cut as many feathers as I need to. Trimming around the eyes and down the side is how I trim them. It gives them a big mohawk. :lau The feathers do grow back so don't worry if you cut too much off.
