Hello! A few hours ago one of our alpacas gave birth to a baby. It's her first baby and she is not taking any care of her baby, and the alpaca crias isn't walking and is very weak. We have been bottle feeding it and at first it was sucking by at about 1/4 of the way threw she stopped suckling. What is going on? Can anyone help?!!! Thanks in advance

To be blunt sometimes mothers natural 'Darwin' instincts kick in an they walk away from week babies knowing something is wrong...

The baby should be attempting to walk in about 15-30 minutes if it's taking longer chances are good something is in fact wrong with it...

My advice call a vet in the area that specializes in alpacas or find a local animal rescue shelter or alpaca breeder that can potentially offer hands on help since they are local...

You can of course do the basics like keeping it warm, secure and trying to get it to feed, but if there is something truly wrong it's going to need more than that...
