Baby button quail died, but why?!

My baby Asian blue button quail died last Thursday. She had a massive cut on her head going from her forehead to the back of her neck. I think it has something to do with her boink. Can anyone tell me how they think it happened?

A quails natural instinct is to fly up and away from danger so if the top of your enclosure/cage is hard or even wire they can and usually do boink their tiny heads. You can combat this by placing greenery, fake plants, a sheet or other soft item on the underside, ie: inside the cage, of the top of the cage.
They short ceiling height can help but they can still boink pretty hard, I say go for the padded top for buttons.
