It is amazing how resilient birds can be. Back when we raised parrots, I went outside one morning and a pair of the Sun Conures had abandoned their nest. The eggs and chick that had hatched were froze solid! The little chick was literally completely lifeless and hard as a board. I brought the chick inside and tossed it in the trash (normally, we don't do this, but Sun Conure chicks are literally about a inch big).
I went about my business cleaning the house, hand feeding babies, threw the old coffee grounds in the trash..... about a half hour later, I heard squeaking noises coming from the trash can. Not putting two and two together, I thought- Oh, great! Some mice got into the trash! So, I go to look through the trash and take it outside and setting up in the middle of the hot coffee grounds, alive as can be, is the little baby Sun Conure begging to be fed. I could not believe it. It is stunning what they can live through.
