I have been reading through the threads and gotten all the advice. I just wanted to ad my 2 cents.
I am using Pedialyte ( I have a 4 month old so had it on hand) for my chick and it seems to be keeping her alive today. She is not eating or drinking so I am using a syringe to give her some every hour and she seems to be doing better but just stands there without moving. Every now and then she lays on her side something I have not seen other chicks do.

I have also fed her some baby rice cereal mixed in for extra strength. I will update tomorrow.

Were your chicks shipped? If so, I recommend you put her on the sugar water solution for extra stressed chicks:

"For the first 2 days add 3 tablespoons of table sugar to each quart of water for extra energy.

IF THE BIRDS HAD A HARD TRIP: Instead of using the standard feed and water suggestions listed, try this: Put 6 more tablespoons of sugar in each gallon of water. Then mix some of this extra sweet water with some of your feed to make a soupy mix. Give your birds this special feed and water mix for 3 to 4 days to get them over the effects of shipping."

I wouldn't feed the rice cereal. I would give moistened chick starter or scrambled egg.

I hope the little one makes it!

Keep in mind that for the first couple of days chicks aren't too hungry as they are digesting the yolk. But the lying on its side seemingly ill worries me.

Thanks.
I put sugar in the water and she does not drink it. I also tried scramble eggs and she did not touch them either.
I will put some sugar in the syringe and give that a try also.
The pedialyte is what you give children if they are dehydrated so I figure it might work with the chick.

Some people do use pedialyte for chickens. But since it is a brand-new chick I just wanted to tell you about the McMurray recommendation for stressed chicks.

Sometimes a new chick won't thrive and you find that everything you do doesn't help- maybe nature's way.

I hope yours gets better soon!

Chick died after one day. It never ate on its own and never pee'd or poop'd. I think it was just a sickly chick to begin with. The people we bought if from Mill Valley Chickens replaced her next time they had new chicks come in and the new chick is doing fine.

Thanks for all of the advice.
