Hi!
I wanted to do a biology experiment of seeing the effect of a high carb diet on baby chicks.

Would this be safe to do?

How long until I feed the baby chicks feed and what do they eat when they're first born?

If i can do this, What could I feed the baby chicks that would be high in carbs?

Would this cause the chicks to gain weight?

Do baby chicks need special feed?

Please help me!! I don't know how to even raise them and have found no reliable websites on how to do this! i would very much appreciate your help, THANK YOU!

Please reconsider this experiment. Chicks need a very balanced diet with about 23 to 24 percent protein in their feed for the first few weeks of their life ("Chick Starter" feed), after which they switch to "Chick Grower" feed, also very balanced nutritionally until they reach adulthood. And then, they STILL need a balanced diet, whether they're going to be meat chickens or laying hens.

If you're still planning on getting chicks, give them water for the first couple of hours (dip their beaks into the fountain so they know where the water is). After than, you can feed them Chick Starter and, in a few days, Chick Crumbles, adding treats like greens as they get older. But a high carb diet does not provide them with the nutrients they need at this very formative stage of their life.

No disrespect, but you must realize that you are experimenting with little LIVES. They feel pain and if they are not taken care of properly they can also suffer. Chickens can live for 8-10 years, do you have plans for them when they are adults? This is an easy one, please find something else for your experiment.

Ok, thank you! I will reconsider my project, i don't wanna kill any little baby chickens!!
