Hi there,

New to the site - the reason being mainly is because we just had a incubator full of chicks. They all seem to be doing great, except for one little guy. I looked at what they call the Splay feet, but it doesn't seem to be that - from what I can see. They don't go out like a bad figure skater, but they go up over his wings. He is a very lively little guy and is chirping and giving it all he's got. I did see the site about bandaiding their legs, so I tried it. Figured it was worth a shot, but now he just rolls over on his back.

I'm not sure what else I can do for this little one, so ANY advice would be helpful. I feel horrible for him !!!

Thanks in advance !!

If you could post a picture it might be helpful. Also, if you have any polyvisol baby vitamins (without iron) give him a drop or two by mouth daily. If you have Save A Chick or other vitamins that is good, too.

I do not have any of that stuff .... we have medicated chick feed and I was thinking about giving him a bit, he is not due out of the incubator until tomorrow morning .....

... Just thought I would mention that I took him out of the incubator to take a picture of him and when I removed the old bandaid that I had applied it seemed that his legs stayed down .... just seems like he isn't strong enough to stand up on his legs just laying on his belly .... would he still be weak from hatching this a.m ???

Three of my chicks hatched yesterday morning and this morning. It's possible he could still be a little weak and getting used to his legs. My chicks started walking around a few hours after being hatched, but they had to sit/lay down to rest often. The little guys are just getting used to walking around and their legs will be weak. but now, after about a day, they are starting to get more used to walking.
I'm not sure about the leg problem though, sorry! Hope I could help

I am hoping that he is just exhausted from trying to walk all day with those crazy feet and now that we have a bandaid on him he can rest and show improvement in the morning ..... fingers crossed that's for sure !!

Thanks everyone !!
