My granddaughters (12 & 16) were here today and we built this little tractor to let the baby chicks out to enjoy the sunshine. They sure had fun. We put in a roost for them to practice. There is a wooden flip-up door on the other side and straps to carry. The solid wood ends provide stability for the hardware cloth and a little shade if needed. It was close to 70 degrees here today so they used the shade. The tractor is 4 feet long and two feet wide. Pretty nice for an old lady and a couple of girls!

My granddaughter took this picture while we were watching the babies in the tractor. It is always like this.

The chicks are six weeks old. Yes, it was my first hatch in the new Brinsea.

Nice looking job!

I don't suppose that you could box up some of that 70 degree sunshine and send it Virginia could you? I am getting pretty tired of snow.

I was sitting out in the pens on Saturday trying to get good shots of my young silkies, when all of a sudden my banty rooster let out his "Danger Will Robinson" screech. All of the young silkies literally threw themselves in the coop, the banty pen all froze and I turned in time to see the last of the large fowl vanishing into the bushes. All in a split second. I looked around and sure enough there was a hawk flying overhead across the street. How he saw it is beyond me (and how he knew it wasn't one of the ginormous crows that routinely fly over is another mystery). Thankfully it flew off and he sounded the all clear. The whole thing was fascinating! I'm still not sure how the silkies knew what that screech meant. They were raised by me in the house and I'm pretty sure I've never made that noise before!
