I have a baby chick that is 1 1/2 days old...it took this bird forever to hatch and when it hatched i realized its inside toe on each foot was crooked (pointing inward)...well i was told it was no biggie but know the little thing has one leg that it can barely move...it lays with it pointing out the back stretched out and it has to waddle to get to food or water...anyone know what the problem might be and how i can fix it?
You can splint this toes/foot on the chick and it will probably be fine. Go to this site for pictures on how or do a search on toes and splinting on here. http://www.peafowl.org/ARTICLES/1/
yes here is more info on spraddle leg, with pictures: http://www.poultryhelp.com/spraddle.html
also I have straightened curled toes with tape (duct tape or carpet tape) left on for several days to a week.
(The above would be if it is otherwise strong enough. Sometimes the odd chick that hatches out from an incubator mysteriously dies within the first couple of days, and weird leg problems can be a sign. Incubators do a much worse job of hatching than hens in my experience. )
