Baby chick lethargic

This happened when I got some salmon faverolle chicks in the mail from hoovers. Almost all of them died😢. They thought they were chilled in transit, but some of these issues fall under the category of "failure to thrive".

I tucked my last living one in a incubator since everyone was running over her in the brooder, but she didn't make it either.

You can carefully feed her electrolytes with a dropper a 3-4 times a day, just basically wet her beak with it and she should take it in. You could try to gently put some of the egg yolk inside her mouth if you want to try. You just want to be careful you don't make her choke.

If she doesn't make it, just trust in knowing it was probably for the best. I had a chick I had to nurse back to health, and though it worked, she has had a host of issues since then. Sometimes when they aren't strong enough to survive the transit or chick phase they aren't strong enough to lead a happy life either.

Thank you for the reply. I just bought some Rooster Booster, vitamins and electrolytes with Lactobacillus. I'm going to try it with her. Unless I shouldn't....?

Try everything! I had a Plymouth Rock chick that was way smaller than the rest of the flock and breathing heavily at first too, I was sure she wasn't going to make it -- she got over it in a few days and she's still the runt, but she keeps up with everyone!

I'll try. It's discouraging I'll admit. I feel so bad for her.

Well, she's dying so I'm just going to hold her until she passes. So sad! šŸ˜ž

I'm so sorry. It is never easy to see a baby animal to its end, but I am glad she has you there.:hugs
Thank you. She's at her end now. Won't be long. Barely breathing. I'm just so sad and feel helpless. I'm not experienced but did what I could.

Edit: she's gone now. I'll bury her in the back garden. I hate putting her in the cold ground tho. I just hate this. 😭

Yeah, this happens to everyone at some point, so it wasn't anything you did or didn't do. You just did your best, and even though it didn't make him or her survive, it still means a lot that you tried and cared. We'll never know why, but some creatures are meant to come into the world just to leave it.😄

This just happened to me this morning I felt so bad I did tiny little chest compressions with my fingers and put it under a heat lamp while I held it under my hand, it started breathing, just gasping for air and would stop for a few seconds and do it again and now she’s literally almost back to normal chirping around everywhere and drinking lots of water
