Baby chick not hatching? helpppp!!

So my egg has not made progress for a couple of hours, and the membrane is drying so I have been wetting it every couple if hours and I chipped a few tiny tiny pieces but I am afraid to do anymore and it seems like she's given up because, she not trying anymore. This is my first time incubating but I have done a lot of research. I really just don't know what to do... it makes me so sad all I can do is wet the membrane. Please any advise would be very very greatly appreciated.

It looks like you may have to help the chick out and do some pipping for it. I assume the egg is around the 18-21 day mark? If there seems to be no activity then helping the pipping is probably going to be needed. Check to see if there is any blood, embryotic fluids left in the egg as the chick does need to absorb as much as possible before hatching. It can be scary to help pip and see the fluids.

Keep an ear and eye on the egg to listen for chirps. If none there may not be anything you can do except help pip.If you can see the head or the end of the egg where the head is start your pipping there, a few pieces at a time. Maybe next step is to see how the feet are positioned and you may help by unbinding the legs. Hope things go well. Mother nature can be unpredictable at times like this. A little TLC and a positive attitude are a good start. Best of luck, Steve

I would (try to) refrain from helping. Put a jar lid of water in the bottom of the incubator to increase the humidity. . . and try to refrain from opening. . . bringing the humidity higher and keeping it steady should help. Good luck. . and do keep us posted.

If they are pipped around the egg they are ready to come out. Just take it out and break cords away from chicken for it.
I will even peel all egg shells off egg so membrame left and blow dry them and not break cords and take white thread and tie off the cords so no bleeding also I peel off shell because they want to kick and break off membrames and will bleed to death if they break the cords when you are helping them. You have to tie white thread around cords so so no bleeding.. I have save countless babies. I also candle eggs and when I see bill in air sac pip eggs for them and then you are obligated to help them out.

I help the chick out of the shell and he's all right he has splayed legs but we bound his legs with vet tape and he can almost walk normaly now! Thank you for all your advice! Btw his name is Samuel Sammie for short (well not really but wat eva) Ans my jatchwas a 70% hatxh rate really only one died cuz 2 were infertile so idk if that counts :\

Your welcome. Whenever they are starting around the egg that is a sign to me they are ready to come out with no bleeding and I help them. If they aren't going around the egg then I will be a lot slower about helping but sometimes the membrame dries to them and they can't get out. I will peel all the shell off the chicks membrame without breaking the membrame and then take each leg out making sure I don't pull him from the cords and blow dry membrame a while then take white thread tie off cords before I cut him free so there is no bleeding and you can help them that way without hurting them.
