Baby Chick Pictures!!!!! POST!

Any idea what kind of breed these beautiful babies are? I'll take a little more updates photo tomorrow! :)

Barred Rock? Has a single comb and looks like a yellow spot on top of the head.

Are barred rocks good layers? And they do have a spot on top. When do they start laying and how are there tempers with a flock at an older age?

Barred Rocks are Excellent layers of large brown eggs. Yes the chicks have a spot on their heads. Females usually have the darker or darker streaked legs as chicks. The Barred Rocks temperament is classified as Docile. They are very smart and friendly birds. Any time new birds are introduced into a existing flock no matter the breed the pecking order will be changed and this will result in some pecking and challenges no matter the breed while they re establish the order. what may look cruel to us is the way the chickens establish the order. However no matter the breed look out for excessive aggression such as keeping the birds away from feed, or pecking to blood, or jumping on top one another. you must intervene if excessive aggression is displayed. Personally I love the Barred Rock breed in fact, April 11th I have Seven female Barred Rocks coming along with one Female Silver Penciled Rock and One Female Golden Cuckoo Maran and One Female "suprise Breed" layer. The Barred Rock has been around a long time and is known as a " Heritage Breed". I really do think you will be pleased with them. they begin to lay at around 4 to 5 months old. So if you order for April or May you will get eggs before winter comes. Hope this helps you out. Best wishes. I don't think you will be disappointed with the Barred Rock breed. They are wonderful.

Looks a lot like my Barred Rock and my Cuckoo Marans that I hatched

I'll second that. My Cuckoo Marans had the little spot on their heads too, it looked more "silver" than yellow. It's gone now as they've gotten bigger. I believe Barred Rocks have yellow legs and Cuckoo Marans have "black" legs. It's hard to tell from your pic, but I'm thinking I see dark legs there! :) There's a few other birds that look similar (Dominiques) though I'm not sure what they look like as babies! All are good egg layers. My little one wanted "striped chickens". While I don't know much, I did learn some about the various "striped" birds. LOL! Some Cuckoo Marans can have feathered feet too. If you go back a page or two, you'll see my pics of my girls (and that's a Cuckoo Maran as my profile pic). The Cuckoo Marans lay the dark brown chocolate looking large eggs.

Here's a thread I found explaining some differences, and there's a link in that thread to yet another: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/504935/difference-between-cuckoo-maran-vs-barred-rock

Thanks so much everyone! I'll post an updated photo of the two babies in a couple of hours! Thanks so much!

I have Rhode Island Reds, Easter Eggers and Barred rocks, My Rocks are by far the friendliest of the group. They are very curious and are the first to meet me at the gate every day. If you got some of them, you're gonna love them.

Not a great pic of them in the brooder but there are 6 Ameracaunas, 6 Plymouth Barred Rocks, and 8 Rainbow Layers. I wanted Production Reds instead of the Rainbow Layers but the wife for got when she went to pick them up and was distracted by getting different colored eggs. Oh well. Going to do at least one hatch from my older flock a little later in the season to get some chickens on a different egg laying sequence. I hope that will fill the gap when the others are taking a break from laying.
