Broody hens have an elevation in the hormone that is responsible for mothering behavior and bonding with chicks...non-broody hens don't, so chicks are just annoying little buggers instead of being her pride-and-joy, reason-for-being, etc..

LOL.. if you wanted details and explanations you should have asked for them in your question... like

e.g. Will a none broody silkie adopt chicks... if not why not?
