So today I moved the hen and the eggs that were left I was going to throw them away but I saw a crack in the egg so I cracked it open to find a baby chick in it that was still alive 4 days later my nan and grandad thought it would die but i didn't so I put it under a heat fan to dry it off and now it is the strongest in the group so one died this morning due to getting stood on I think but the one I saved this morning is alive and has taken over that ones place so 11 still rest of eggs must have given up halfway

Little Miracle had quite a start to her life. Mom abandoned the nest after the first 5 hatched. Found her egg cold. Got mom to sit back on the nest for the night but she was off again in the morning. Cold again. Luckily I had the incubator going for just such an event so I brought the last 2 eggs inside. Not 20 minutes later our power went off. Left her in the incubator for a bit but it cooled quickly. Rigged a nest in a fanny pack with my hand warmers in the bottom for heat and eventually stuck the whole thing in the front seat of the van. They always say vehicles in the sun are like ovens. Power came back on after an hr and a half. Waited impatiently for the incubator to heat back up and put the eggs back. I had been hearing cheeps earlier but wasn't anymore so I was worried but after they got good and warm I candled and could see movement in one. She pipped around bed time and was out flopping around the incubator this morning!

Hey! These three were ordered from Secret Hills Ranch in San Diego, CA.
Originally, I ordered four but only three made it.
Considering that the recommended amount of chicks to order was 12 - I'm going to say we were very successful!

This is my very first time ordering chicks via mail from a reputable breeder instead of just purchasing them from a feed store.
Not that there's anything wrong with doing that, I just think that from now on I'm going to continue to order from breeders because the chicks seem much healthier, more lively, and much more calm around humans. Also, their not common breeds you can find!

Eden my Cream Legbar (Rees line)

As a bonus here are the other two! I don't want to hijack the thread so pay no mind to them.. I'm just excited and though I would share

Esmé the French Lavender Marans:

And Iris the Splash Isbar:

I was so happy with the way everything worked out that I ended up ordering another batch that will be here next Tuesday/Wednesday!
I'll be getting another Splash Isbar, a Blue Copper Marans, and two Cream Legbars (Curtis Hale line) since Kaylee was nice enough to give me one as a packing peanut!

I highly recommend Secret Hills Ranch! She's been nothing but sweet and has answered all my questions even though I definitely bugged her.. often haha.

The chicks were sent in a sturdy box (labeled 'LIVE ANIMALS' all over) with shavings, Gro-Gel, and a heat pad!

I'm so in love with my new babies and I know I shouldn't have favorites.. but they are definitely the top contenders!
Shh, Just don't tell my other girls

Oh wow.. what a start!! Quick thinking on your part to use the car! And look how fluffy she is!!
What breed is she? Also what a beautiful and fitting name!
PJ's 6 babies

Such fluffy little babes! And they all have such gorgeous coloring! What are they?!

Aww.. what a little fighter! It's always so endearing to see a mama hen with her babies. Mama is looking proud! "Yes, they are cute and yes, I did make them!"

These are my 2 teanagers, they were born 8-5- & 8-6.They grow up so fast
The semi-awkward teenager stage! Yours are gracefully growing out though! Mine are super awkward and patchy looking!

These are my newest addition to my group born 9/16-9/19/2015
9 chicks.
Aww!! I love pictures of mama hens with their babies! Such fluffy little ones and a gorgeous mama!

Here is "PINKY" so named by another BYC member...before and now. Pinky is a patched egg hatched baby lol

Fussing at me
How cute of you to name Pinky after a BYC member!! I wish I could hatch my own eggs.. but then I'll never stop adding chickens to my flock.
It must be so exciting to candle the eggs and hear the first pip! Such a cute baby! What breed is it?

The gang, 2 gold laced wyandottes and 1 black Australorp, they are 4 weeks old in this picture
I've always wanted a Gold Laced Wyandotte! And I also have an Australorp around this stage.. It's weird to think she's going to lose all her white feathers
but I'm excited for the greenish/purple-ish black sheen!
New Babies Today!!!

LOOK AT THOSE BUTTS. AND THAT FLUFF!! I seriously just squealed out loud.. Must.. resist.. urge.. to.. snuggle!!!
What are they? They are so cute! And look how tame! I wish I could hatch my own eggs ):
Are they much tamer when you do so?!

7 week old Olive Eggers

Buff Orpington Chicks at 6 weeks

First ever chick that we hatched ourselves, 24 hours after hatch
I want Olive Eggers and B. Orpingtons so bad!! I can't find anyone around here that has them.. and I can't justify buying 12 chickens since I'm already in over my head..
Sigh, I guess I'll just admire them from afar! Is that a Buff Orpington chick? That has to be the FLUFFIEST day old chick I've ever seen. Seriously!

5 babies so far! 3 to go.
Congrats!! Did the other 3 hatch?! So dang cute! What are they?!
Haha lol some giant Silkies would be awesome! I'll probably cross my paint boy to one, I think he could manage it...lol! An Ayam EE would be amazing!
And ooh...wait for it...Serama EE!

Speaking of Seramas, here's four of my babies...

Oh my gosh.. THEY ARE STINKING CUTE! And oh so tiny! Why did you have to post this.. now Serama's are added to me "I definitely need these" list!
As if I didn't have enough already!! What's a few more going to hurt.. right? Plus... Serama's are tiny.. so two of them count as one chicken anyways.. right?
Chicken math, at it's best! Haha
My fave Polish rooster ever as a chick :-D

Three Mille Fleur Cochin Bantam Chicks

Twelve giant cochin chicks that I got in the middle of december and had to raise in a big metal tub in my house :-D

Those Cochins at a day old on the way home

Mama Silkie (Jean) With four Polish chicks

Blue Silkie chick

Leonardo, the paint Silkie, as a chick
I don't even know where to begin! Your post just got me more and more excited as I scrolled down! First, LOOK AT THOSE SKY HIGH VAULTED SKULLS! Man, they are going to have gorgeous crests!! And cochins!! Another breed I really, really want! You know you're dedicated when it's winter and you have them in a metal tub in your home! To be honest, my chicks are kept in a corner of my room haha.. Their peeping relaxes me in a totally un-weird way! So cute to see mama Silkie adopt chicks and have them cuddled on her!! Also super jealous of your paint! I should've done my Silkie research but I bought two Silkies from a "breeder" that promised me they were paint.. only to have them come out as Partridge. I love them regardless but I still want Paint Silkies! Yours are all so fluffy!!
I keep a pair of EE's crossed with bantam Cochin from my hatchlings this year. The hen took the broodyness of the Cochin and lays a nice green (light olive) coloring.
Roohen. I love mine. And wish you the best with yours.
Beautiful splash roo!!! He is just dreamy! Do you have any pictures of her eggs? Sounds gorgeous!

My little roo is getting his comb
Aww! What a cute little fella! Wish I could have roosters here ): Looking at pictures will suffice!
Nice!

Here are some of mine, hatched 1 week ago. The picture was made at about three days old.

Congrats on the hatch!! They are cute little buggers! Super fluffy with such cute big feet!! What are they?!
