Help. I bought 4 baby chicks and all are doing well...but, I have 1 that basically screams when I leave her(all pullets). She has sisters to be company with but she really doesn’t care. When I go to talk to her or check on feed/water she settles down. But when I get outta sight, she starts squawking in her high pitched baby voice. She goes on like that all day and into the evening. Any suggestions on how to help her overcome this?, she likes me to hold her and jumps on my lap when I take the babes outside in their enclosed area....she doesn’t like me to leave from there either(I sit on the outside of the area and watch them...ok, “I try” to sit on the outside area. Am I doing more harm than good? I feel like she is yelling in fear for me not to leave her. What should I do?

:welcome Time to wean her 'Mom'.
Not sure how I do that. Do I just ignore her and let her deal with the other chicks? I’m sure she’ll get over it, but it sure is hard on me. When I hear her crying, it saddens me. Her sisters appear to be barely getting any sleep. Do I leave her be until she adjusts to it. She’s only 5-6 days old

Maybe try to get her to interact with the others? Like if she wants to cuddle, cuddle another chick with her. I used to hold all 3 of mine in my arms until they fell asleep, and I usually cuddled all of them together, letting them climb all over me.

Thank you, I appreciate it

Enjoy the cuddles and love while it lasts. She’ll grow out of her attachment sooner or later. They grow and change all the time when they’re young. Like little kids. It won’t last forever, and won’t do any damage. Spend as much time as you can with them all now that they are young, so that they grow up friendly. You’ll wish for these days to be back, they go by so quickly.

I’ve had a couple chicks like that. They grow out of it within a few days. One of them I kept. She’s 1 year old now and has some jealousy issues if I hold another hen 😄 But other than that, she’s a great hen and we’re good friends.

🥰 that was the most soothing

Yeah, this happened a bunch for us when she was younger, do NOT listen to her (dont ignore) if you go in and hang out she realises thats a basically good way for you to stay, how i used to do it was show i was there, then slowly go in and out, they would eventually not care anymore and do their own thing, it does seem like a “fear” thing, i know, its really hard to leave them when they scream, but it did happen to us when they were Much younger and she is not deathly terrified as far as i know, just slowly wean
