I had to finish hatching out a baby chick that was almost ready to peck out of its egg when the mama hen decided to come off the nest with the one she had already hatched out. The little chick did hatch and I put it under its mama. I noticed this morning that it was having trouble walking and keeping up with the hen. I picked it up and it looks like it has two spots on each side of its toes and on the bottom it was swollen and had some watery type stuff in the pad of it little foot. I took a needle and disinfected it and got the fluid off of the chicks foot. It is still sorta irritated some. What can I do if anything????? Will it get better???? I feel sorry for it. I now have it in a box under a light bulb to keep it warm and have it food and water. I didn't want it to die. I hope someone can help.

Thanks.

Sounds like you are doing everything right. Keeping it isolated, is a good idea. You can keep an eye on it, make sure it is eating/drinking. Fingers crossed- hope everything works out!

Thank you for the reply Chillin.... I am still watching it closely. I am not sure whether it is a she or he, haven't ever figured out how to tell that one. But he/she is holding its on. eating and drinking some. I stays quite until I walk in the room to ck on it and then it goes to peeping.
