@Eggcessive @casportpony
& anyone else who has info or experience. Thanks in advance!
I have a chick hatched under a broody (pics below) that has obvious signs of "mushy chick"
She seems to be doing well now & is 5 days old. You can still see the umbilical "mess". I have cleaned and applied abo each day.
Her sibling was hatched at day 19 and the ,mushy chick was hatched on day 22 so the size difference is noticable. (There was one broken/dissapeared egg the 2nd week & two eggs that didn't hatch.)
She is following mom and her sibling around the run and the yard. She keeps up pretty well.
She eats and drinks and poops. She is much smaller than the sibling.
I've read that the mortality rate is very high in the 1st two weeks.
I'm wondering if she has a better chance of survival since she is being raised by a broody? Or, will that decreases her chances of survival because of exposure to bacteria in the run & yard?
I won't take her from the mom either way because I'm sure she would be stressed if I did. I'm just trying to get an idea of her chances for peace of mind or to prepare of the worse.
